Our Analysis and Test Results
This 10.5 by 8.1 by 18 inch Super Q comes equipped with a blender jug, a personal blender cup and blade system, a tamper, a scraper, and a recipe book. The 50-ounce jar is large enough for a big batch of margaritas or soup for the family. It has a digital timer, five presets, and 12 speed settings.
Performance Comparison
Smoothies
Throughout our smoothie testing, the Super Q continuously impresses our testers. All three smoothies, and the milkshake, are evenly and efficiently blended.
The Super Q offers a plethora of presets, including one for green smoothies, which works almost perfectly. It cruises through kale in 60 seconds without shaking or tipping the blender, producing a pleasantly creamy texter. We did use the tamper a little to stir while making our green smoothie, but the contents of the blender don't necessarily need to be stirred to achieve a creamy consistency.
The smoothie preset works well for most concoctions. Our strawberry, almond, and oat smoothie is well blended. Although there's a small amount of texture to it, the texture is not substantial enough to leave you with chunks of oat and almond in your teeth.
Because the Super Q breaks down frozen fruit easily, it makes a decent berry breakfast on the smoothie preset. Unfortunately, it struggles to break down the tiny seeds in berries, leaving a noticeable crunch. We also noticed a little yogurt stuck to the walls while blending our berry smoothie. This is a little disappointing, considering how well it performs across the board.
The Oreo milkshake, on the other hand, is perfectly blended on the smoothie setting. The Super Q shows no signs of struggle and crushes the cookies up, providing a smooth, creamy texture.
Ice
Some blenders are not meant for crushing ice, but the Super Q has a preset specifically for this use. Simply press the pulse/ice crush button and walk away. It will run for 45 seconds, leaving you with a fluffy snowlike consistency.
There is another preset called Frozen Desert, which is perfect for margaritas. The texture is consistent and smooth, ensuring you don't accidentally crunch down on a big chunk of ice mid-marg.
Convenience
The Super Q is easy to clean with mostly dishwasher-safe parts. The digital timer and presets are intuitive and well-labeled. Overall the Super Q is very easy to use.
The pitcher, personal cup, and lids are all dishwasher safe. The blades are not removable but are small and easy to clean. The best way to clean the cup and blades, if you don't want to use the dishwasher, is to blend some soap and water on the auto wash preset. The lid and removable inner lid are also easy to wash, but there is nothing in the manufacturer's manual that states whether or not they are dishwasher safe. The pitcher can be placed over the base to dry, ensuring that it doesn't take up too much space on your countertop.
The labeling is clean and straightforward, offering options to scroll through as well as a countdown on the small digital screen. The light-up buttons are easy to see, and the dials allow for easy scrolling. There is a cleaning button and five main presets: pulse/ice crush, smoothie, green smoothie, frozen dessert, and soup. The Super Q also offers a variety of speed settings like mill, puree, blend, chop, mix, and stir. We appreciate that everything is labeled with words rather than images, so there's no room for misinterpretation.
The clear labeling, intuitive design, and intentional presets remove the guesswork and allow for a hands-off experience while offering consistency in your blending experience.
Pureeing
Whether you're trying to make nut butter or soup, the Super Q does a great job of pureeing.
The Super Q produces some of the smoothest and creamiest nut butter in our test suite. With the predetermined puree speed and a little help from the tamper, this blender produces the perfect nut butter in roughly one and a half minutes. It requires less oil and a more hands-off experience than most options in our test suite.
The soup is evenly blended, leaving no garlic or vegetable chunks. The soup preset purees for five minutes and 35 seconds and heats your dish to 153 degrees. The lid is easy to take off, even though the temperature change creates some pressure, and when we sifted it through the sieve, only a thin layer was caught.
Grinding
The Super Q crushes our grinding test. Sugar and flour are easily turned into powder, and hard cheeses are ground with no signs of struggle.
The milling preset turns granulated sugar into a soft and fluffy powder in 30 seconds. The end result is so powdery that a big cloud poofs out when the lid is removed. The mill setting also creates next-to-perfect flour. Almost all the milled flour travels through the sieve, leaving only a few course pebbles behind.
Hard cheese, like parmesan, is ground relatively easily on the chop setting. The Super Q can take on larger blocks of cheese, unlike some of the other options in our test suite that require the parmesan to be cut into smaller pieces. It produces a slightly coarser grind and leaves a few small unchopped chunks.
Should You Buy the Breville Super Q?
The short answer to this question is YES. The Super Q is an extremely intuitive, well thought out blender with a number of attachments like a tamper and a personal cup. Aside from the base, all the blender parts are dishwasher safe, making clean-up simple. It makes hot soup, powdered sugar, and perfectly blended smoothies. It even makes a mean margarita with its expert ice-crushing capabilities. The only downside to the Super Q is that it is easily one of the most expensive options in our test suite; however, it is well worth the money if you are looking for the best of the best.
What Other Blenders Should You Consider?
The Vitamix A2500 Ascent Series is another extremely high performer with the price tag to match. We have been testing this model for years and are continuously impressed with its durability. If you want something much less expensive, the NutriBullet is a high-performing blender at a budget-friendly price. Unfortunately, the lid is not dishwasher safe, and food gets stuck underneath the blades. It also does not have all the fancy presets — just high, medium, and low-speed options. The Breville the 3X Bluicer is another great option if you are looking for a blender that doubles as a juicer.
