Our Verdict

Earning one of the higher scores of the group, the RAVPower Ace is a great all-around battery pack. It is exceptionally convenient to use, recharges quickly, and is quite portable, all at a fairly low price for these products. It holds its own against the top portable chargers on those merits alone and topped off with the added convenience of its two-in-one capabilities, we highly recommend it.

Performance Comparison

To start off our process of picking the perfect portable charger, we researched and compared dozens and dozens of different batteries, then bought all the best to compare against each other. We conducted tons of different tests and assessments, grouping them into four weighted testing categories, with the Ace's results outlined in the following sections.

Portability

Responsible for 40% of the total score, portability is of the utmost priority when it comes to these products. For this metric, we scored each power pack on its overall size and weight. Additionally, we rated each battery on how comfortable it is to carry around in a coat or pant pocket.

The Ace is on the smaller side for these products, having a rectangular form factor that measures approximately 3" x 3" and is about an inch tall.

This portable charger is also on the lighter side of all the products we tested, weighing in at just under seven ounces.

However, this charger isn't our favorite when it comes to carrying around in a pocket. Its square shape seems a bit more cumbersome and obtrusive than some of the longer and skinnier batteries and you can definitely feel it when carrying it around in a pants pocket.

It's overall on the smaller side, so it is no hassle at all to carry around in a coat or jacket pocket.

Capacity

Next, we looked at the electrical capacity of these batteries, specifically how much of their stated capacity we could pull from each battery at higher discharge rates and how many times each one could charge specific devices. The RAVPower Ace 6700 didn't do amazingly well in this set of tests, earning a 4 out of 10 in this metric, which accounts for 30% of its overall score.

Unfortunately, we were only able to get about 51% of the stated capacity out of this battery at a 2.4 amp discharge rate, with our meter recording 3438 milliamp hours before the Ace 6700 died. It did do a little better when we reduced it to a 1 amp discharge rate, as we were able to pull 59% of its advertised capacity out.

However, the Ace did meet its manufacturer's claims when it came to the number of specific charges that you can get out of it. RAVPower claims that you can charge an iPhone X 1.5 times, an iPhone 8 2.2 times and a Samsung Galaxy S9 1.3 times. We didn't have an S9, so we used an S8 instead. The Ace charged it 1.35 times, which is comparable to charging an S9 1.3 times.

Added Convenience

Our next set of tests is where the RAVPower Ace 6700 truly shines and earned its place as one of the most convenient all-in-one charging solutions. It did exceptionally well in our added convenience metric, which accounts for 20% of the overall score, earning a 7 out of 10 for its results.

The Ace has multiple USB output ports, allowing you to charge multiple devices at the same time. It can also handle higher discharge rates — up to 2.4 amps — letting you quickly charge larger devices, like tablets or especially power-hungry smartphones.

The main thing that sets this charger apart from the rest is its integrated wall plug and its ability to act as either a USB power adapter or a portable charger. You can plug it into the wall, then hook up a charging cable to charge your device. While the Ace is acting as a wall power adapter, it also charges its own battery, making it an extremely convenient option when you need a portable charger, as you simply grab it and go. This also circumvents the need for an additional wall charger.

However, it does lack an integrated flashlight or built-in cables for different devices, but it does have a solid warranty period of 18 months, with the option to extend it an additional 12 if you register. It also has a battery level indicator made up of four LEDs, so you know how much charge is remaining when using it in portable mode.

Recharge Time

For the last metric, we timed and scored how long it took to recharge each of the portable power packs, which accounts for the remaining 10% of the final score. The Ace finished out with a solid showing, meriting a 7 out of 10.

This battery took just under four hours to completely recharge, which is about two hours faster than the group average.

Value

Overall, the RAVPower Ace is a solid value, retailing at a relatively affordable price and its dual functionality giving you even more bang for the buck.

Conclusion

The Ace is an excellent all-around battery that puts exceptionally convenient features in a fairly portable package. We love the additional ease of use the dual operating modes offer and recommend this battery highly to anyone that wants an all-in-one charging solution.
