Our Verdict

The updated version of one of our all-time favorite boards, the Boosted Plus builds on the tried and true tactics of the Boosted Dual+. The Plus is very similar to the Dual+ in most aspects, but includes a larger battery for increased range and has a slightly stiffer deck and larger stock wheels for an improved riding experience. It does an absolutely phenomenal job at braking, allowing you to control your speed on even the steepest descents and speeds up most hills with ease.

Our Analysis and Test Results

This board finished at the top of the group, neck and neck with the Evolve GT and just behind the GTX. The Evolve board are both high-performance, which can be a bit intimidating for casual riders. Both of those boards maximize power, but don't have as much stopping power as the Boosted Plus. This makes the Plus a bit more appealing for the casual commuter or if you are riding in areas with heavy traffic or frequent obstacles.

Performance Comparison

To pick out which E-skateboards are truly worthy of winning an award, we have spent the past few years researching these products, then buying all the best boards out there and testing them side-by-side to see which ones really came out on top. We broke our testing process into six weighted rating metrics — Speed, Range, Ride, Hills, Build, and Braking — with the Plus' results described below.

Speed

Responsible for a quarter of the total overall score, our speed tests are the most important of the overall score. We judged and scored each board on both its maximum top speed and its acceleration, with the Plus earning one of the top scores of the group with a 9 out of 10.

We gave the Plus three shots at hitting its maximum top speed in our time trial test, seeing how long it took to traverse a 50-foot long course — allowing it enough space to hit its top speed before crossing the start line. Averaging the results, we found that it hit an average top speed of 22.02 mph, comparing quite favorably with the rest of the group.

For our acceleration test, we repeated the above procedure, but had each board start right on the line. The Plus doesn't have the best acceleration, averaging about a second longer than the top board, but accelerates very smoothly, with much less fear of getting thrown from the board.

Range

Our next metric, Range, is responsible for 20% of the total score for each product and was quite simple to test. We rode each board through a flat parking lot until they died and scored each one on how far it went. Additionally, we also timed how long it took each board to charge completely. The Boosted Plus did very well, earning a 7 out of 10 for its performance and improving considerably on the results of its predecessors.

This board made it about 14.5 miles in our test in "Eco" mode. We particularly liked that it lasted at seemingly full speed for almost the entire test, only dropping in speed for the last half-mile or so.

This board also charges quite quickly, taking just under two hours to completely charge — about 10 minutes longer than the manufacturer's claimed amount.

Ride

Moving on to our opinions about actually skating around on this board, our Ride metric is responsible for 20% of the total score. The Boosted Plus is actually one of our favorite boards to ride around, earning it one of the top scores of 7 out of 10.

Most of our testers were solidly drawn to this board, loving its smooth acceleration, quick stopping capabilities, and nimble maneuvering for quick errands or for just cruising around town.

It's highly comfortable to ride and does a solid job at handling bumpier roads or cracks. It can still be a little jarring, but handles uneven terrain even better than we would usually expect for a board with solid polyurethane wheels. The board seems to absorb a significant portion of the vibration and definitely does better than its predecessor, mainly due to its larger wheels.

Speaking to its predecessor, the trucks don't feel as restrictive, allowing a much looser feel that makes it considerably more fun to ride.

Hills

Testing was easy for this metric, as we simply ran each board up slightly steeper hills until it couldn't make it. Worth 15% of the final score, the Boosted Plus did quite well, earning an 8 out of 10 for its efforts — one of the best scores of the group.

Boosted claims that this board can make it up a 25% grade hill and our testing aligns with that. This board crushed all of our tests, zipping up all of the hills with ease, even on our steepest test, a 23% grade. This was the steepest hill we could find and it made it up with no signs of a struggle, so we would assume 25% would be a piece of cake for this powerhouse skateboard.

Build

Accounting for 10% of the total score, our Build metric evaluated and judged each product on responsive and ergonomic it is, how much it weighs, if it has regenerative braking, and how helpful the customer support of the manufacturer is. The Plus delivered another top performance, earning an 8 out of 10.

This board finished roughly in the middle of the group when it comes to weight, measuring in at 17.8 lbs. on our scale.

The remote is identical to the other Boosted models, feeling very ergonomic and solidly built. It's decently intuitive once you get used to it and our only slight complaints are the mini-USB charging port is starting to seem a little obsolete and you can't see which riding profile you are in without cycling through them and looking at the lights or counting beeps.

The board is highly responsive to remote commands and has regen braking. You can reach support by both phone and email and they were quite helpful in resolving a pairing issue we had with one of their boards, though we did pay for shipping the board back and forth to them for repair.

Braking

For the final 10% if the total score, we ranked and scored how quickly each of these products could stop, as well as how well you could control your speed when heading down steep hills. The Plus has some of the best brakes we have seen to date, earning it a 9 out of 10 for its stellar showing.

This board lets you go as slow as you want down practically any hill, easily coming to a complete stop and holding you in position in our tests on a 23% hill.

The Plus also comes to a stop quite quickly, having one of the shorter stopping distances of the group.

This was the average of three trials, with the board traveling at a moderate speed — around 12-13 mph — and the brakes applied as hard as our testers could without falling.

Value

While this board has many excellent traits, being a good value isn't one of them. It pairs an exceptional performance with a hefty price tag and there are definitely better options out there if you are shopping on a budget.

Conclusion

Overall, the Boosted Plus is one of the best boards out there, especially if you value stopping and maneuverability slightly more than raw power.
